Mark Kimpton


Mark’s expertise, energy and unique flexibility performing on virtually all percussion instruments as well as his extensive musical background distinguishes him as one of the most sought after percussionists in Las Vegas.

Mark has performed on over ten production shows, five Broadway shows and more than one hundred celebrity shows. Additionally, he has performed for fifteen years with prestigious relief bands and with the finest marimba and steel drum bands in Las Vegas.

Born and raised in Michigan, Mark started drumming with a passion at the early age of five! He studied with percussionists from the Detroit Symphony, and was active with drum and bugle corps in Detroit and Canada. He holds degrees from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, both with Masters Studies of Music Performance and a Bachelors Degree in Music Education, minoring in Ethnomusicology.

Mark has taught private and group percussion lessons at various studios and music camps such as the Interlocken Fine Arts Camp in Traverse City, Michigan. He has been teaching privately since the early 1980s.

Recently, Mark studied and taught different genres of world percussion instruments including Latin, African, Brazilian, and Japanese instruments. One of his favorite instruments is the Japanese taiko drum, which has further inspired his creativity in mind, body and spirit.

His latest percussion preoccupation is with Scottish snare and tenor drumming as used in pipe bands.

Kimpton’s distinctive creativity in Japanese Taiko, African and Marching percussion appeals to clients desiring unusual themes for private events. The unusual look, ambiance and atmosphere add a whole new dimension for special events.
